Making your voice heard in Congress

April 3, 2009

As was to be expected, financial services have taken center stage in Congress. While issues such as bank bailouts, AIG bonuses and the like have taken center stage, legislation also has been introduced which would significantly impact the ability of average Americans to access basic financial services. For example, bills pending in both the Senate and House of Representatives would have the practical impact of eliminating small dollar, short-term loans from the marketplace because the cost of providing these products would be greater than the profits that companies could generate offering them. Absent these products, consumers will be forced to use more expensive alternatives. A hearing has already taken place in the House and others are sure to follow.

In response, the Coalition for Financial Choice is organizing a broad-based grassroots campaign. It is important for members of Congress to know how the people in their district feel about these issues.
